Celebrating 20 years of citizen action to Save Our Springs!

In August 1992, Austin voters overwhelmingly approved the SOS Water Quality Ordinance.
A few months later, SOS Coalition leaders incorporated the SOS Alliance to defend and advocate for the SOS Ordinance, Barton Springs, and the Edwards Aquifer ecosystem.

Stay tuned for special events in 2012 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of these important milestones.

Joint Committee Votes with Public Opinion at Wednesday Meeting

Thank you to those who attended the Joint Committee Meeting yesterday regarding the proposal to build a large ornamental gate and columns at the back gate and the placement of a large art sculpture on the South hill of the pool grounds.

After much public comment, the Committee voted unanimously to work with the artist of the sculpture to place the piece OUTSIDE of the pool grounds and to revisit the back gate additions of stone columns, an ornamental gate and a new ticket booth and reconvene on that at their June meeting.  The crowd who attended and those who spoke were in favor of moving the sculpture outside of the pool and passionately supported retaining the historically undeveloped, natural look and feel of the south gate.

Stay tuned for updates and upcoming meetings regarding the master plan and the changes being proposed for the pool.
